Wemlinger Comprehensive Upgrades Program (CUP)
The Wemlinger Water Purification Facility (WPF) is being upgraded to modernize aging equipment, improve processes, and prepare the plant to treat water from multiple sources. Delivered in three coordinated phases, the project will enhance water quality, expand treatment capacity, and help provide safe, reliable drinking water to Aurora communities for years to come.
This page will be updated throughout construction with project milestones, documents, and the latest news. To receive email notifications when new information is posted, click Subscribe at the right of this page.

Why This Project Matters
Share Why This Project Matters on Facebook Share Why This Project Matters on X (formerly Twitter) Share Why This Project Matters on Linkedin Email Why This Project Matters linkWhether you live nearby, have a student at a local school, enjoy fishing or walking at Quincy Reservoir, or simply care about the reliability of Aurora's water system, this project supports the City's long-term water needs.
Aurora Water is investing in your future by:
- Expanding Water Sources - Today, Wemlinger treats water from only one source, Rampart Reservoir. This project prepares the facility to treat water from three additional local supplies, including Aurora Reservoir, Quincy Reservoir and Cherry Creek Wells. These additional sources will strengthen the system's reliability and provide more flexibility in how our water supply is managed.
- Improving Resiliency - Enhancing treatment processes so the facility can better handle seasonal changes in water quality, such as natural algae growth or heavy storm runoff.
- Modernizing Infrastructure - Replacing aging, equipment and structures to ensure the facility continues operating smoothly and dependably for decades to come.
- Enhancing Operations - Updating older systems with modern approaches that support safe, reliable service for staff and customers.

Key Project Improvements
Share Key Project Improvements on Facebook Share Key Project Improvements on X (formerly Twitter) Share Key Project Improvements on Linkedin Email Key Project Improvements linkAurora Water is completing a series of major upgrades at the Wemlinger Water Purification Facility (WPF) and Quincy Reservoir to support new water sources, improve treatment and modernize aging infrastructure. Below is an overview of key elements being built at each site:
Wemlinger Site
- New Pre-Treatment Building - A state-of the art facility that filters out organics and sediment-heavy water. It will allow Wemlinger to clean up to 80 million gallons of water per day.
- Modern Chemical Feed Building - A safer, fully updated space located east of the current chemical room. This building houses new treatment systems, including a carbon dioxide system that helps keep water pH properly balanced.
- Zone 4/5 Pump Station and Surge Tanks - A highly efficient pump facility that reliably moves clean water through Aurora's network of water mains and to customers' taps.
- Filter and Valve Modernization - Complete replacement of internal filter valves and electronic flow meters to reduce future maintenance needs and improve long-term reliability.
- Electrical Upgrades - Replacing older transformers, control centers, and wiring with modern, efficient equipment that supports dependable power and backup systems.
Quincy Site
New Drying Basins - Because the upgraded treatment process will capture more natural sediment and solids from our additional water sources, we are adding three new drying beds at Quincy Reservoir. These basins will safely process and manager the increased solids produced during water treatment.
