Let us know your thoughts on the alternatives

The city of Aurora is conducting a study to explore options for improved access to the Aurora Reservoir. The study is focused on developing a new, secondary access road that accommodates current and future traffic projections while also providing pedestrian and bicycle connections to the reservoir.

In this early stage of the project, the city is reviewing traffic information and developing and evaluating concepts for potential roadway alignments.

The final access road alignment that is selected will take into consideration existing topography, impacts to surrounding neighborhoods, and environmental resources to ensure sustainability while remaining cost-effective. The project's goal is to significantly improve the reservoir's infrastructure, support its facilities and operations, and ensure it can handle high traffic volumes during peak times, special events and holidays.

In November 2025, the city conducted community outreach, which included an open house at the Southeast Recreation Center and an online survey to gather input on the potential roadway access options that were under consideration. View the meeting display boards. We appreciate everyone who provided feedback.

After weighing the alternatives and reviewing the community input, the city has selected Alternative 5 for consideration to move forward to conceptual design.

Alternative 5 is the extension of Whitaker Drive/Belleview Avenue. The city will be discussing potential property impacts with both Cherry Creek Schools and Arapahoe County.

Once this decision has been finalized, the city will begin work on the design process to get to the 30% design milestone. No funding has been identified at this time for design work beyond that milestone nor construction.
