Project Update: Sept. 11, 2025

Over the past year, the city of Aurora visited more than 15 properties, identified a potential location and developed a request for proposals for a service provider to operate a Youth Empowerment Center. This process has been guided by input from residents and the broader community.

As many are aware, federal, state and local governments are experiencing budgetary challenges. While Aurora is in a stronger financial position than many other entities, the city has a responsibility to address both current and anticipated budget considerations.

In light of this responsibility, the Aurora City Council has determined it will wait until 2026 budget projections are finalized before deciding on whether to move forward with the Youth Empowerment Center. An additional update is expected this fall.

In the meantime, the city will continue supporting Aurora’s youth through existing initiatives, including the Youth Violence Prevention Program and Aurora SAVE.
