Welcome to the Lead Service Line Replacement Program's webpage.

Do you own a home in Original Aurora built in 1959 or earlier? Aurora Water needs your help with ridding Aurora of lead and galvanized steel water service lines.

There is nothing more important to Aurora Water than public health and providing our community with safe and dependable water. As part of this mission, Aurora Water wants to help keep your household safe from lead through our Lead Service Line Replacement Program. When water service lines made from lead or galvanized steel are found they will be replaced for free. Service line replacements normally cost $10,000.

Aurora Water has been inspecting homes in Original Aurora, the oldest part of the city, built prior to 1960. New regulations through the Environmental Protection Agency and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment require that all water departments create a mapped inventory of water service line materials throughout the city and make it publicly available by October 2024. After identifying the type of material the water service line is made of, water systems must develop a plan for removing and replacing service lines containing lead. This comprehensive inventory of water service lines containing lead or galvanized steel will guide Aurora Water's program to replace these water service lines.

Since water service lines are buried, homeowners may not know what they are made of, and many records do not indicate the service line material. Most of these water service lines were installed before Aurora even had a water department.

The portion of the service line from the water meter into a home is not owned or maintained by Aurora Water. We're asking property owners to complete the Service Line Acknowledgement and Agreement to Participate in the Lead Service Line Replacement Program. The link is on the top right of this page. This agreement acknowledges the following:

  1. Aurora Water and its contractors have the authority to conduct a service line material investigation.
  2. Authorizes Aurora Water and its contractors to replace a lead or galvanized steel water service line from the water main to the location inside the home.

This website will provide community members with program updates, as well as information on upcoming meetings, project areas and more.

Are you also covering homes in the Yale/Buckley area such as Hutchinson Heights?

Lyle Duer asked about 2 months ago

Thank you for your question. Aurora Water is focusing on homes built prior to 1960. Statewide records do not show lead being used for water service lines after this date. These focus area is Original Aurora, the oldest part of the city. Build dates for this Hutchinson Heights area are between 1975 and 2005, depending upon the specific neighborhood. Due to the build dates, we can safety say the materials are non lead.

If, however, your home was built prior to 1960 and you are the property owner, please click on the Acknowledgement and Agreement form on the top right.
