How is the project being funded?

The city of Aurora is funding the design effort. Construction funding is being provided through the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), with 10% matching funds provided by the city's Public Works Department. The city applied for and received an HSIP grant to improve the safety of the intersections. HSIP funds were granted for the construction phase only. Close coordination with CDOT during the design phase is required.

Who is completing the work on the project?

The city of Aurora has hired an engineering consultant to develop the conceptual, preliminary and final design of roadway, sidewalk, traffic signals, drainage improvements and tie-ins for the intersections in the project area. Once design work is completed, the city will request contractor bids for project construction.

How will this project benefit the area?

The intersections in the Havana Street/11th Avenue/Del Mar Parkway triangle have nonstandard geometric configurations, with Del Mar Parkway intersecting Havana Street and 11th Avenue diagonally, resulting in multiple closely spaced, signalized intersections.

    When will construction begin?

Construction will start the week of Nov. 18, 2024.
