What is a nature exploration or play area?

A nature exploration or play area is exactly what it sounds like - a designated area where people of all ages and abilities can explore, build and play in a safe, natural environment. What it will look like exactly, we aren't sure yet - we need the community's help determining that! But it will include a variety of natural elements and textures, such as tree logs, boulders, plants and climbing elements, that help residents connect with nature in a new and exciting way. The exploration area will be designed to be a starting point for visitors. They will find curiosity and excitement for nature through the area and then journey out to explore all the Star K Ranch trails and open space have to offer.

Why is a nature exploration area being built at Morrison Nature Center at Star K Ranch?

The nature exploration area will add new and unique ways for visitors to engage with the natural environment at Star K Ranch. The playground will allow for passive experiential learning while exploring natural textures, shapes and elements. It will provide a needed resource for community members of all ages and abilities to learn about the ecosystems in Aurora, enjoy the outdoors, connect safely with nature and practice healthy and playful lifestyles.

How is this project being funded?

This project is being funded through a grant provided by Adams County Open Space, the City of Aurora's Adams County shareback fund and community partners.

Supporting community partners include the Bluff Lake Nature Center, Environmental Learning for Kids, Sand Creek Regional Greenway and High Line Canal Conservancy.

Will the exploration area be accessible?

Yes, the exploration area will be accessible and offer elements for all ages and abilities.
