Radiating Possibilities: Aurora Public Library Strategic Plan
From Feedback to Action: How Aurora Public Library is Implementing New Strategic Plan
After a yearlong planning process shaped by more than 2,700 community voices, Aurora Public Library has completed its new Strategic and Facilities Master Plan and is beginning implementation this year. Grounded in the library’s new mission to nurture curiosity, capability and confidence throughout all of life’s chapters, the plan focuses on making library services easier to use, more responsive and more closely aligned with how Aurora residents live, learn and work today.
Five areas of focus will guide the library’s work moving forward.
• Resource and access navigation creates clearer pathways to information, programs and community services and local resources.
• Comprehensive skills and literacy development strengthen learning opportunities for all ages, from early literacy and student support to workforce readiness and lifelong learning.
• Community building reinforces the library’s role as a welcoming gathering place where people connect, collaborate and feel a sense of belonging.
• Digital equity and access addresses gaps in technology, internet availability and digital skills, ensuring all patrons can participate fully in modern life.
• Passion and culture cultivation rounds out the focus areas by elevating arts, culture and personal interests, encouraging creativity, exploration and joy within library spaces.
What does this mean to you? You should expect all our decisions, from programs to materials purchasing, from technology to space improvements, to be shaped by these areas of focus and following our new mission.
The plan also evaluated existing facilities and future needs. It identified over $17 million in recommended improvements and maintenance across Aurora’s five libraries and calls for a new library in northeast Aurora to better serve growing neighborhoods.
Guided by a vision of an interconnected Aurora full of opportunity, the library’s next chapter centers on supporting patrons at every stage of life. To review the full plan, visit AuroraLibrary.org.
